Changelog
What changed, release by release.
Version 0.4.0
October 6, 2026Added
- Post to X… opens X's composer with your clip's quote and a link to the article. You review and post it yourself.
- Share Clip… sends a clip to any app through the share sheet.
- Shared clips can add a short "via covereader.com" line. Turn it off in Settings > Reading.
Fixed
- The window and sidebar stay smooth while many feeds refresh.
- Setting older articles aside no longer turns itself on after a new install. If it's on and you never chose it, turn it off in Settings > Reading.
Version 0.3.1
October 3, 2026Fixed
- Cove no longer uses more and more memory the longer it stays open. Each feed refresh used to leave a little behind, which could add up to gigabytes over a few days and make the window stutter.
- Opening Cove no longer freezes for a moment while it counts unread articles. Sidebar counts now fill in just after the feed list appears.
- Loading article images, full articles, and new feeds no longer holds up the window while the download comes in.
Version 0.3.0
September 30, 2026Added
- Agents connected to Cove's MCP server can now search the archive, with the same matching as library search.
Changed
- Search is faster and no longer slows down as your archive grows: titles, authors, and feed names are now looked up in the same index as article text.
- Titles, authors, and feed names now match by whole word, like article text does, with only the last word you type also matching the start of longer words. `ack` no longer finds `hacker`.
- Very large result sets are cut at 2,000 matches of any kind, not just text matches.
- Cove is much faster with a large library. Marking read, starring, refreshing many feeds, and deleting a feed no longer hold up the window, and sidebar counts update without pausing the list.
Fixed
- Search no longer keeps finding an article's old text after Cove is stopped at the wrong moment.
- When Cove starts fresh after failing to open your library, the backup it sets aside now includes your saved article text, so it can actually be restored.
- When Cove can't open your library for a reason you can fix, such as an unreadable format, a full disk, or no write permission, it now says which and what to do, and leaves your library where it is. Before, it could set the library aside and start empty, or quietly fail every mark-as-read, star, and refresh.
- Starring or marking an article read no longer stalls during a large OPML import or a refresh of many feeds.
- Mark All as Read, Mark Above, and Mark Below now tell you when they only partly finished, show as running instead of silently refusing a second click, and clear the warning when a retry succeeds.
- Search now tells a search that is still working from one that found nothing, and a broken search index from no results, instead of showing No Results too early.
- Refresh no longer spins forever on a feed item that can't be saved, and an article that matched one from another feed is no longer lost if that feed is deleted mid-refresh.
- Crash reporting, when you turn it on, now also reports when Cove freezes for a second or more, with a trail of what it was doing.
Version 0.2.0
September 15, 2026Added
- Search now looks inside retained article text as well as titles, authors, and feed names. Results are ranked by relevance, body matches show snippets, exact phrases are supported, and searches work offline without leaving your Mac.
- A new All Articles row searches the complete archive, including read articles and articles from archived feeds.
- Advanced settings now shows the search index status and provides a Rebuild Index action.
- About Cove now opens in its own dedicated window.
- Smart feeds now offer Refresh All Feeds and Mark All as Read actions.
Changed
- Search follows the selected feed, folder, or smart-feed scope, and the search field identifies its current scope and depth.
- When you mark the selected article read, it remains visible in Unread until you move to another article or change the list.
Fixed
- Search results and the selected unread article now remain consistent while background updates arrive.
Version 0.1.1
September 11, 2026Fixed
- Crash reports now reach Cove's diagnostics service when you turn on optional crash reporting. This helps us find and fix problems.
Version 0.1.0
September 10, 2026Added
- Cove can open your library to an agent on your Mac. Turn on the MCP Server in Settings under Advanced. An agent that speaks MCP can then list your feeds and folders, read unread and starred articles, open one article, mark articles read, and add, rename, move, or remove a feed. The server is off until you turn it on, it listens only on this Mac, and it needs the token Cove gives you. Choose HTTP or the bundled stdio bridge, and copy the configuration block Cove shows you. Cove ships no agent of its own; the agent is yours.
Changed
- Cove starts faster. It no longer prepares the audio system or searches for its data model before it needs them, so Now Playing stays free until you listen.
- Listen begins speaking sooner.
- About is now the last tab in Settings, after Advanced.
Fixed
- Links in an article that did nothing when you clicked them now open. Cove resolves a link against the article's own address, and discards a destination it cannot make sense of instead of trying to open it.
Version 0.0.10
August 28, 2026Changed
- Archived feeds now keep article state, including read, starred, and set-aside status.
Fixed
- Space now scrolls WebKit-rendered articles correctly, then moves to the next article at the end.
- User-renamed feeds now keep their custom titles after refreshes and feed metadata updates.
Version 0.0.9
August 25, 2026Changed
- Cove can replace short feed previews with a clearly better full article when it is available.
- The upgrade runs safely in the background and does not replace archived articles.
Version 0.0.8
August 17, 2026Added
- Cove now has its own appearance setting. Pick System, Light, or Dark in Settings under Reading, and it applies to the whole app instead of the reading pane alone. Read dark while your Mac stays light, or the reverse.
- Article lists can show thumbnails. Turn on Show Article Thumbnails in Settings under Feeds, and Cove shows the image a feed provides beside each article. Images are cached on your Mac and appear offline. The setting is off by default, so the list stays text-first unless you ask for it.
Fixed
- The toolbar no longer holds its old colors after you switch between light and dark.
Version 0.0.7
August 8, 2026Added
- Choose whether marking an article as read moves you to the next story.
- Choose how unread activity appears in the sidebar: a count, a subtle dot, or nothing.
Changed
- Cove queues several feed subscriptions added in quick succession and keeps you informed as they finish.
- Articles now credit every listed author.
- Set-aside articles remain visible in Unread, with a clear way to restore them, while staying out of unread counts and Next Unread.
Version 0.0.6
August 2, 2026Added
- Clips — select any passage in an article and save it. Clips get their own place in the sidebar, hold your notes, stay highlighted in the original article, and copy out with the citation attached. Searchable, and removable in bulk.
Changed
- Setting older unread articles aside is now just how the reader behaves — no separate destination, no timer, no archive. They stay unread and exactly where they were until you act on them, and the Unread list tells you how many are set aside.
- "Mark All as Read" and its Above/Below and per-feed variants now leave set-aside articles alone, and the command dims when there's nothing left to mark.
- A voice model you download starts narrating as soon as its files are verified — no second step.
- Settings now links to Cove's Discord.
Fixed
- Feeds, full-text fetches, and article images stay on HTTPS when a site redirects, instead of quietly dropping to plain HTTP.
- The "couldn't prepare this article" message sits centered in the reader pane instead of hugging a corner.
Version 0.0.5
July 25, 2026Added
- Tide gives you a calm way to set older unread articles aside without marking them read. Choose an age globally or per feed; articles stay available in Tide before moving to Archive.
- Listen to articles aloud with built-in macOS voices or optional on-device voice models.
- Follow along as Cove highlights and scrolls the paragraph being read.
- Control Listen from Now Playing and your media keys, with play, pause, and paragraph navigation.
- Adjust reader text size with ⌘+, ⌘−, and ⌘0.
Changed
- Listen has clearer voice choices, shared speed controls, smoother buffering, and a more polished floating player.
- Voice-model downloads and library management are more dependable.
- OPML import and export handle files more reliably.
Fixed
- Articles with literal line breaks late in an RSS feed now retain their text correctly.
- Listen avoids stale scroll jumps and responds more reliably to playback and voice-setting changes.
- Tide and OPML messages are clearer in edge cases.
Version 0.0.4

- Nested quotes in articles are easier to read.
- Selected sidebar icons now match their labels, including empty folders.
- Settings are clearer and easier to scan.
- Cove handles feed identities and existing library data more reliably.

- Initial usable release of Cove.
